Environmental safety

Environmental safety is a key priority of the "Ural Industrial - Ural Polar" project

The project includes organizational and technical measures to eliminate possible accidents during the period of construction and operation of the facilities:

  • the location of railway track chosen so as to minimize any fire hazards, bypassing the water hazards and other hazardous objects;
  • the activities for the prevention and elimination of emergencies with the storage of fuels and lubricants, engineering networks, stations, junctions and other facilities are included;
  • the comprehensive plan on prevention and liquidation of accidents during the construction of the railway is developed;
  • the regulation and descriptions for the prevention and elimination of accidents and their consequences on the route of the railroad are prepared for the railway service personnel, emergency services and constructors;
  • the procedure of the accident notification at the facilities and organization of consequential liquidation is prescribed;
  • the composition, number of staff and the equipment for emergency response on land and water facilities are estimated, on the entire route of the road and on the 'point' type objects (such as stations, junctions, temporary settlements) the recommendations are developed for the prevention and consequential liquidation.

In addition, the activities of environmental monitoring during the construction of railway lines are planned. These activities are will be included in the contract of the general constructor.

The possibility of domestic and industrial pollution will be eliminated at the location of the builder camps, as a complete removal and disposal of waste in accordance with the class of risk is provided. The contracts are will be signed with the specialized waste disposal companies. A full restoration of the land temporary occupied by roads, construction sites, builder camps will be done after the construction will be completed.

The particular attention is paid to the preservation of wildlife habitat located on the territory of construction, especially considering that the railroad passes through the migration area of reindeer, the Corporation envisages a construction of 11 specialized deer transitions.

A complex for the protection of fish stocks, including the rare species of whitefish is prepared and will be implemented. It will provide the following:

  • the strict enforcement of protection of water zones and the coastal water protection strips, the Regulation on the protection of fish stocks and the specific fishing regulations, the Regulation on the protection of surface water by the sewage pollution;
  • the construction sites are will be backfilled above the level of flooding, the dumping will be carried out before the flood - in the summer or winter low flow period;
  • the location of the railway will not disrupt the natural water flow on the territory, thus will exclude the water logging areas;
  • the drainage system of the railroad will be equipped with a complex of valves for the necessary block in case of unforeseen situations;
  • the construction at in the beds of the non-freezing rivers will be held in the period of low flow. The least impact on the fish fauna will be in the summer period;
  • the disturbed coastal areas are will be restored and strengthened by plantations of grasses and other vegetation;
  • only the equipment of perfect technical condition will be used in the construction;
  • the storing of harmful to the water resources substances, will be carried out outside the reservoir protection zones;

All of the equipment and machinery are will be refueled at the specially designated fuel stations outside of the floodplains and water protection zones.
